Backup

OPML works with Feedly, Inoreader, NetNewsWire and most other readers. JSON exports from the old version of this reader import too.

Move to another device

Saves everything: subscriptions, folders, read history, starred articles, podcast positions and settings. It's locked with a passphrase you choose, so the file is unreadable without it. Open it on your other device to carry on where you left off. No server is involved.

Data

Your subscriptions, read history and starred articles are stored only in this browser. Erase everything removes all of it, including saved articles, images and the offline copy of the app.

Privacy

Article images and site icons come through this reader, so publishers never see your IP address. Turn this off to load images straight from each site instead.

Nothing you do here is logged or stored on a server. To fetch feeds, the reader's server asks each site for its feed. Feed searches go to Feedly and Apple Podcasts. Paper lookups go to Unpaywall. Find free copy opens a Google search. Podcast audio plays straight from the podcast's host. None of these services can tell who you are from the reader.

Mute words

Articles whose title or summary contains any of these are hidden, except in Starred. One word or phrase per line.

Notifications and app

Choose Edit feed → Notify me on any feed to get a notification when it has new articles while the reader is open, even in a background tab. Installed as an app, the reader also shows your unread count on its icon. To install, use your browser's Install or Add to Home Screen. It then opens on its own and works offline.

Paywalled sites

Articles from these sites (plus about 40 built in, such as WSJ, NYT, FT and Bloomberg) get a Find free copy link that searches MSN, Yahoo, Apple News, Reuters and AP for a licensed free version. One site per line.
